The Big PROM Day

Today was one of the highlights of being a senior in high school and ready to graduate.....the PROM. Our daughter got all dolled up today and spent a few hours having pictures taken by her brother (the photographer) and ourselves. These are some of my photos that I took which aren't as nice as the ones taken by our son, but they will have to do until the others get edited.

A girl and her dog...
A little "kissy-poo" for Lucy the beagle....
A random old barn we found while driving around town to find the perfect backdrop location for pictures.
And another...
Being sassy for the camera...
I love the look of the old barn wood in the background....
Next up - grad commencement and grad BBQ! Busy week for the mama!

A Pink Rose

So today I was at one of my favorite thrift shops on the search for more supplies for my projects and low and behold in the furniture section I spotted this pink rose pillow.....
This pink rose beauty is the same as the two red beauties I already have in my reading room....
But, when I looked closer and saw the price tag I was shocked! $2.00!!! I only wish that when I purchased the other two red ones they had had the same price tag on them!

This Post Is For You Mom

Can you see it mom? Can you see how beautiful the blooms are? Can you smell how wonderful the scent of the blooms are?
Go ahead, get closer.....the scent will bring back memories of Hawaii and the scent of the plumerias there.....
Oh, if only all of my rhododendrons smelled as good as this one! Wish you were here to enjoy it!
See you in a couple of weeks!

Shirley May's

On our drive home to B.C. in the morning we first made a pit stop to Shirley May's Restaurant near Scio, Oregon. We hadn't been there in a long time but used to frequent Shirley's often when our kids were very little (and we were visiting our parents). I would have to guess that she has not seen our kids since our youngest was about 2 years old - now she is 18! Shirley was surprised when these two young ladies walked in who once used to be little girls! My how time flies!

A Painting We Will Go

Way back when (my wainscoting project) I started a project in our entry hallway that has taken me a WHOLE YEAR to finish! Start one thing and it leads to another and another and so on - the snowball effect, as I like to call it. A year ago I had finished putting up the paneling and all last fall was devoted to painting the walls in our house the same color so it would unify everything. After taking a picture for a post a couple of weeks ago (No More Hall of Shame), I realized that I really needed to finish this small project that was started a year ago. Well, this week I finally tackled painting the paneling and then once that was painted everything else looked terrible as you can see from these pictures.
We've been in our home for about 11 years now and I guess the trim and doors have taken a beating - that and also the fact that the house is 80 years old! So, this summer I am going to devote my time to repainting ALL of the doors and trim throughout the house so that they sparkle like the rest of it.
I hope a summer is enough time to finish what I've started....

Saving the Day

Mother's Day started off by going to my parents' church service with them followed by breakfast at Sweet Waters Restaurant in Albany, OR. Here I am striking a pose with my daughters....
Then we headed back home again to my parents house where this mom saved the day of a little lost hummingbird....in my mom and dad's studio working area the door was left open (I am guilty) and a hummingbird flew in and headed straight up to the skylight window on the vaulted ceiling. Needless to say even getting up on a chair did not get me as close as I needed to get so my mom concocted a "net" of sorts (a plastic bag on the end of some floor trim) and I began to guide the bird away from the window. He then flew across the room and into one of the cobwebs on the vaulted beams. Lucky for us he did this because it caused him to drop (because of the weight of the cobweb) down to our level and land on the window ledge. I reached for his back tail wings to get him and then he started to fly away (which left some feathers in my grasp) and then he dropped to the ground. I picked him up from the floor and he wasn't moving....I then began to pluck away the cobwebs still stuck on him and guided him to the petunia basket so he would get some of the nectar from the flowers. After slowing drinking some, he sprung to life and flew away.....a good ending!
After this drama of the day we enjoyed barbeque filet mignon, baked beans, baked potatoes, caesar salad and garlic bread....YUM! Thanks dad!

A Great Mother's Day Outing

My mom and I had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration all weekend....first up was a visit to Ruthie B's in Springfield, OR. I absolutely love this place and I am overwhelmed every time I go there. There is so much stuff in this place and I always find amazing things here. It is also a wonderful tea room and a great place to have lunch....and fun!

Mmmm...cupcakes for dessert
A group shot of us....mom, sisters, me and daughters....
Tea anyone??
Some shots of the amazing things they have in this place....something for everyone!
Ruthie B we all love you!!

No More Hall of Shame

The wall space has been filled...filled with a wall of frames...frames that were once a big joke between my mom and me...now they are a joke no more...they are a focal piece on a wall that was once shameful but is now boasting with pride!

Dishwasher Bling

Okay, so it took me a while to finish this - but I am so pleased with the outcome! I will call this project my "dishwasher bling!" It is so much cheaper than going out and buying a new dishwasher when the one I have works perfectly fine - it just needed a face lift! Don't we all sometimes!

Maybe now I will enjoy doing dishes...NOT!

Double Trouble

Now I wonder what could these two girls be up to?? When I walked into the sunroom it looked like I interrupted some shenanigans that these muppets were trying to hide! One never knows what goes through the mind of a dog....we can only speculate!

Sweet Storage

I had this vacant birdcage laying around and was thinking how could I put it to good use. Then a lightbulb came on and voila! Some storage room for all the spools of ribbon I use...so sweet!
